Overview
This is a great remote run through some remarkable wilderness in western MA.
Description
This is a wonderful scenic run that is VERY CHALLENGING on one very steep hillside. Starting out at Mohawk Trail State Park Campground you run back on a dirt road past a gate. There is a rusty old pickup truck hiding in the woods that is very cool to see. Near here is the old stand of trees that is measured and monitored by a fantastic group of volunteers.
The uphill section from Zoar (the marker on the river) uphill to the scenic overlook is very challenging when wet, or in the fall with leaf coverage. It's very steep in sections. I do recommend running the loop counterclockwise as it is routed on this map so you're facing the challenging section on the up vs. sliding down which I personally find a little scarier.
