Description
This is the main loop trail at the north unit of Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area. Parking is available at the end of a short gravel access road off of Buena Vista Road. If driving north on Buena Vista Road, turn right onto the access road immediately before crossing the Luckiamute River.
From the parking area, run past the gate and follow a short connector trail to the start of the main loop, where there is an informational sign with maps and guidelines. Running counterclockwise, head through a restored riparian gallery forest filled with cottonwood, ash, and oak along a short bluff above the Willamette River. Several short spur trails provide scenic views of the river.
At 1.2 miles, the trail bends southwest, turning into a wide doubletrack bordering a field—this stretch can get hot in summer. Best to run when it hasn't recently rained, as the soils can get very muddy.
