Overview
A nice short 1.6-mile run through the woods and wetlands with amazingly huge old maple trees. There is a small lake and seasonably some streams.
Runner Notes
Pretty decent trail to run with limited roots here and there.
Description
Lots of parking available. You can find the trailhead by parking and running along the gravel road a short distance. The preserve is well-marked both at the trailhead and where trails diverge.
Most of this trail is along the
Perimeter Trail which you follow through the woods, up and down small hills. You'll stay left on the trail and follow this until you get to the small lake on the property.
The trail turns into the
Holton Wetland Interpretive Trail which you'll follow a short distance before heading onto the
Ravine Drop Off Trail. Once you get to the old barn, you'll go left following the
Perimeter Trail once again until you are back at the trail entrance.
Flora & Fauna
HUGE maple trees, lots of ferns, wildflowers in the summer.
History & Background
The Island County Conservation Futures Program made possible the purchase of the 50 acre gem in central Camano Island. Friends of Camano Island Parks sponsored the project. The property was purchased in 2001 by Island County to became a day use public park with trails. The park is also a Backyard Wildlife Habitat demonstration garden. The property is also a meeting and conference site.
