Overview
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve offers its visitors an exciting chance to view an authentic Tallgrass Prairie, complete with its most photogenic inhabitant: an entire herd of bison! While running around the area, you're sure to either find the herd itself, or traces of where the herd has been in the form of tracks in the ground. In addition to the bison, expect to see an assemblage of beautiful birds in the area.
Description
Starting from the parking area, head south on the
Ranch Legacy Trail as you delve into the Tallgrass. A few miles in, you'll reach a junction with the
Crusher Hill Loop. Make a left to loop around Crusher Hill, and another left onto the
Scenic Overlook Trail thereafter. The loop passes multiple intersections with connector trails along this portion, but stay on the main loop until you find signs for the
Prairie Fire Loop.
Continue left onto the
Prairie Fire Loop toward the
Palmer Creek Loop, At this point, be sure to take time and enjoy the peaceful water and your riparian surroundings. When you're ready to continue on, head south along the
Prairie Fire Loop to meet up with the
Davis Trail and a southerly journey back to the parking area.
