Overview

This loop of Constitution Lakes Park is one of the more unique trails in the Atlanta area. The park is most-famously known for it's remarkable found-object art installation along the Doll's Head Trail.

Description

This run is an unusual mix of natural scenery and man-made wonder (or horror if you aren't really into dolls).

Starting from the western parking area, the trail starts as you might expect from a traditional county park. The paved path is wide and winds through a variety of woodlands before transitioning to a wide, raised boardwalk as it gets closer to the lake. You'll be running over marshy land where you can occasionally spot turtles and other wildlife in the wetlands. There is a small Boardwalk Spur Trail if you want to pop out toward the lakes to take a closer look.

From the Constitution Lake Boardwalk you'll head onto the aptly named and very memorable Doll's Head Trail. Half art installation, half creepy trash menagerie (think Sid's bedroom from Toy Story), this short loop has been made memorable by the creative work of a group of people who have repurposed found trash objects into weird and interesting installation pieces. The park asks that you only build art from trash you find on the property and that you don't take out any of the existing pieces you may find. It's an interesting concept, and the resulting pieces are certainly memorable.

From the Doll's Head Trail, head out on the Constitution Lakes Trail winds along the southern half of the park, along the South River. The wetlands transition back to woods until you turn north and end back at the main parking area.
