Overview

At just over 2-miles long, this loop is a great outing for families, newer runners, or those just looking for a quick, scenic loop at Oak Mountain. A stop off at Maggie's Glen is the highlight of the loop.

Runner Notes

A great loop with the option to add on some additional mileage if you'd like!

Description

Starting from the North Trailhead, stay right at the first three intersections to hop on the Shackleford Point Trail (White Trail). This trail trends southwest, winding on scenic singletrack through the woods. Eventually, the path will turn more south for a final gradual climb up to Maggie's Glen.

Maggie's Glen is a scenic natural spot where you can sit and enjoy a break or a snack. Along the nearby stream, you may spot many different kinds of plants, and the spot is shaded by many trees, making it a relaxing rest spot on warm, sunny days. Several trails come to a junction here, so on popular weekends, the area may be busy.

Once you are done enjoying the scenery, continue on the Foothills Trail (Yellow Trail) to head back toward the trailhead. This section of the run winds through more beautiful woodlands that are especially scenic in the fall. The going is gently downhill most of the way back to the trailhead, making this an easy ending to your loop.
