Open year round, March 1 - October 15: 7am - 10pm; October 16 - end of February: 7am - 8pm
Overview
Though this complete run is short in length, climbing up and over the dunes makes for a good workout. Visitors can expect a few staircases along the way if they plan on getting to the beach, which helps considerably over the loose sand you'd otherwise be traveling across. Luckily, the first
Barrier Free Gravel Loop access a short spur to a viewpoint, which makes for a nice excursion by itself.
That said, if you're able, continuing through the network of raised boardwalks and viewpoint decks makes for a fun day trip. Bring a picnic or towels in the warmer months to enjoy the easy water access.
Need to Know
From Memorial Day - Labor Day: $7/vehicle. Annual permits are valid. No lifeguards at the beach.
Description
From the main parking area, find the
Barrier Free Gravel Loop and head counterclockwise for the most direct route toward the first viewpoint and staircase. Head up and over the wooded dune to another
Gravel Connector down toward yet another viewpoint, with a great vantage point over the numerous trails to the beach.
Look for an optional left turn shown here that heads down toward the beach and the pit toilets. Otherwise, head right (north) up along the beach for a flat stroll and quick loop through a brushy section of low-lying dune with access to a couple spurs down to the beach.
After enjoying the lakeshore, retrace your steps up the staircases and along the
Gravel Connector to head back to the parking area.
