Overview
A great course that takes you through some of the most beautiful dune areas of the Netherlands, containing the highest dune of the Netherlands.
Need to Know
During the race you'll pass around 4 aid stations, making it possible to run this course without a support. Personally, I take a light weight race vest with some essentials (first aid kit, gels and some water).
The entire course is runnable, even the sandy bits. The beach is usually pretty okay. The dusty sand parts in the dunes can be pretty tough.
Description
The trail is almost completely offroad and follow forest paths and some single tracks. The hardest parts are the parts through the dusty sand. The combination of the challenging footing and various ups and downs makes this a hard course. The route does have the reward of taking you to the hightest dune in the Netherlands, topping out at 750 meters.
History & Background
When a large part of the country is below sea level, it's obvious that protection against the water is of the essence. This course takes you the highest dunes in the Netherlands, which have helped to keep the feet of the inhabitants dry.
