Trail floods heavily after periods of heavy rain.
Description
Trail begins at either the intersection with
Granny Burrell Falls Trail #486 or Big Green #487 trail depending on which direction it is done. This trail is mostly flat, except for the uppermost portion that adjoins Big Green trail. This upper section has 4 sets of wooden steps, a wooden bridge, and various rock steps cut into the stone trail surface. The upper section of trail passes through hardwood forest and Rhododendron tunnels, and the lower section passes through lowland pine forest where it has plenty of open areas where camping is permitted.
There is a large group shelter at the intersection with
Granny Burrell Falls Trail #486. This trail is often very wet and muddy, with some sections impassable after heavy rains unless you wade through ankle deep water/mud. The trail is named after the rock face of Big Green Mountain, which parallels the trail on the north section near
Granny Burrell Falls Trail #486. Unfortunately the rock face is barely visible in the Winter, and not visible at all in the spring, summer, and fall months when there is foliage on the trees.
