Overview
Though the mountain may look daunting, the standard running route heads up the backside and is pretty manageable. only the last bit is super steep.
Description
While this is the standard route up to the summit of Corno Grande, be prepared for steep sections of trail, scrambles and loose gravelly sections.
Start from Campo Imperatore and follow the main route up the hillside. There will likely be tour groups out if its summer, but if you start early, the trail shouldn't feel too crowded. As you traverse up the hillside, most of the running should feel fairly comfortable—a gentle but sustained climb. You'll have some great views as you traverse the lower bowl before taking a short descent to reach the tougher part of the climb.
As you climb the normal route, the grade will gradually get steeper. The last push is a doozy, but keep trekking as it will all be worth it. From the summit the views on a good day are outstanding, stretching out across Gran Sasso National Park.
