Need to Know
There is a primitive (but official) trailhead at the mouth of Maple Canyon (the west end of the trail), and another trailhead with a restroom at the upper end of Whiting Campground, at about mile 1.5.
Description
This trail is in two sections. The lower section runs from the mouth of Maple Canyon parallel to (but isolated from) the road. It is popular with horses because there is good trailer parking at the lower trailhead but they cannot use the upper trailhead at Whiting Campground. From the Whiting Trailhead up it is a much wilder path. Most runners turn at the
Right Fork Maple Canyon Trail #007 to climb Spanish Fork Peak, but the trail continuing on eventually connects to other trails that interconnect the mountainous terrain between the Wasatch Front and Strawberry Reservoir, opening up numerous backpacking loop options.
