Description
From Billings, head west along Rimrock Road/HWY 302. Turn right on 62nd St W to continue on HWY 302 as it leaves town. The road will veer back west, and then the trailhead will be on the left immediately after you cross under the train tracks. Park in the lot and follow the obvious doubletrack that goes south, towards the bluffs.
At the first main trail intersection, continue along the main, doubletrack trail. The other trails that depart both east and west will wind their ways around the butte and eventually to the top—the main trail is one of the most direct ways to the top. It's a steeper climb, but fairly direct.
Once on top, it's a pretty easy run, looping any of the abundant roads and trails into an adventure of any length. The route mapped here is a decent tour, but use the
Trail Run Project mobile app to make sure you stay on track. Definitely consider heading towards the east side of the butte for some great views of Billings down below.
