Description
The
Devil's Tea Table is a rock formation which towers above the lower Buffalo River. It is a prominent site which can be seen when floating the river. The easiest route to reach this formation begins at the dead-end of Co Rd 650 (aka Cozahome Rd). Find the trailhead marker here marking the National Forest area. Follow the rough horse trail which leads southwest, until you come upon the "Private Property" marker and Bearing Trees with USGS survey marker.
Do not use the private property road. Instead, traverse down the hill with several rocky cliffs to your left. During the winter, interesting icicle formations can be found along the bluff line. Find where the bluff line ends and cut sharply south. Follow the horse trail southwards as it opens onto a grassy glade. At the end of the trail, find the
Devil's Tea Table and an excellent overlook on the Buffalo River. Expect many undulating hills and loose rocks on a rugged singletrack path. Running sticks and good stamina are recommended.
