The trail starts off mild, but has a lot of short steep climbs. This is definitely a challenge trail for hiking and biking. There's some off camber portions, so wear proper footwear.

There are some really neat, huge boulders along the trail that offer lots of picture opportunities with friends and family as well as a couple decent views of the dam. Most of the lake view are obstructed by trees though. You can get better views of the lake on the adjacent trail, Table Mound Hiking Trail.

The trail is marked as an ascent, but I would personally do it as a descent with my family. The challenge to do this is to have two cars, leave one at the bottom and drive to the top. There is a parking spot along the road at the trail entrance if you are able to do this.

Armadillo, song birds, and deer.
