Start at the Point Addis headland car park. This section of the Surf Coast Trail kicks off by descending the stairs at Red Rocks will take you out onto the beach for a short distance. Following signage will take you up into a well-maintained singletrack. Steps and some uneven ground are present but do not dominate the trail. Following this section will bring you all the way to the Anglesea River mouth which is always beached over so crossing is not an issue.
After a small distance on the sand, we chose to go up the first set of stairs (half way to the Anglesea Surf life saving clubhouse). After the stairs, turn right, and follow the track now between the sand dunes and the Great Ocean Road will take you past several lookouts and take you around to point Roadknight Headland.
After Point Roadknight, continue following the shape of the headland and continuing down Melba Parade for a short time before at O'Donohues Beach, heading over the sand dunes and onto the beach itself. There is always sand to run on, even at high tide. The final 3 kilometers on the sand will bring you to the carpark at Urquharts Bluff.
