The trail upstream of Tidwell will remain closed until at least September 2024. An advisory was posted at
hcfcd.org/Activity/Active-P… in June 2023, but be aware HCFCD links often change.
Description
This wide paved trail starts at the
Hollister Basin Loop, northeast of Hollister and West Little York. After an at-grade crossing of Antoine, the trail continues on the right bank until Watonga. At this point the trail moves over to the left bank until West 11th Street, where a dedicated bridge crosses back over to the right bank. After at-grade crossings of W. 43rd St., W. 34th St. and Ella Boulevard the trail uses the MKT bridge to move back over to the left bank, proceeding uninterrupted to the University of Houston-Downtown near the confluence of White Oak Bayou into Buffalo Bayou. Staying high and to the right, the trail passes under N. Main at Girard then bridges over White Oak Bayou. After an at-grade crossing of N. San Jacinto St., the trail bridges over Buffalo Bayou then turns into a wide sidepath along Runnels St. to pass under I-69 to end at Commerce Street.
This is one of the key spine trails in the Houston area. The trail itself offers about 16 continuous miles with only four grade crossings of city streets. More importantly, it connects to the White Oak Bayou Hike and Bike Trail upstream and to the Buffalo Bayou trail complex downstream with a number of intersecting trails along the way providing neighborhood access.
