Dogs Leashed
Overview
Beginning starts at Fall Hill Avenue by the Virginia Outdoor Center with a flat walk for the first mile. This will also be the same route out of the hike.
After the first mile, you can make a left and go into an area with inclines. At this point, the trails are well-defined and treed.
Description
The Fredericksburg Quarry Trail System is for both hikers and mountain bikers located within the city limits of Fredericksburg. As a hiker, you do want to keep your eyes and ears open for mountain bikers. There are a couple of spots where going downhill they can get up enough speed that it would be difficult for them to stop.
There are an abundance of bridges, log obstacles and creek crossings. Nested on the shore of the Rappahannock River, the trail offers great scenery and a 200+ foot elevation change across the entire trail system.
There is a flooded quarry that is used for scuba diving certification training.
Trail Mileage: 13.8 Miles
History & Background
After it flooded, the quarry was used to supply water for what used to be the Sheraton hotel golf course that has now become Central Park.
