Need to Know
Redwing Park is a signature park in Virginia Beach. There is a Japanese and pollinator garden at the entrance of the park. The park also offers two dog parks, multiple playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, and a gigantic open field. There are two shelters that can be reserved for gatherings or parties by calling 757-385-PARK.
Runner Notes
Minor roots and muddy areas.
Description
You can enter the trail from behind either of the shelters at the back of Redwing Park. From the parking lot, if you enter the trail from behind the shelter to the right, you'll shortly have great views to your right of Malbon Swamp, which feeds into Lake Redwing. There are two connector trails to shorten this run if desired. There are some low spots on the trail that can fill with water after a heavy rain.
Flora & Fauna
Multiple wildflowers, vines, ferns, oaks, pines and cypress.
There is an abundance of Pileated woodpeckers hence the name "Pileated Trail." There are also other woodpeckers here along with many other birds, ducks, squirrels and white-tailed deer.
