Description

Loop Trail starts and ends along Hotel Trail. From the parking area at Access Road, take Access Road to Hotel Trail, go left onto Hotel Trail, and almost immediately there is a signpost for Loop Trail. Go right here onto the singletrack Loop Trail that begins by climbing up the grass hills to Mt Hamilton Road, reaching it at the 0.3 mile mark. After crossing the road and Yerba Buena Trail, continue straight ahead to McCreery Lake and a trail junction with Lakeview Trail and McCreery Lake Trail.

Loop Trail goes right at McCreery Lake and is relatively flat as it travels through the beautiful, sunlit woods for the next 0.7 miles. After this, the trail veers right, pops out of the woods into the grass, and crosses Yerba Buena Trail and Mt. Hamilton Road again.

Then after crossing Mt. Hamilton Road, Loop Trail goes left and runs along the road in the grassy hills for a short ways. Nice views of the hills far into the distance on this stretch. The trail then veers right and descends to Bass Lake. At Bass Lake, Loop Trail meets Bass Lake Trail and turns right at this trail junction to descend along the wooded outlet creek of Bass Lake. Slowly veering away from the creek that is on the left, the trail emerges from the woods into grassy hills again with great views of the San Felipe Creek Valley below. Continuing to descend, Loop Trail ends at the 0.5 mile mark along Hotel Trail.

Flora & Fauna

Tree studded grass hills, green in the spring, golden in the summer and fall. Sunlit thin wooded sections. Spring wildflowers.
