The purpose of this road is access by the Corps of Engineers. Please do not interfere with dam operations. See swg.usace.army.mil/Missions… for applicable regulations.
Description
This trail is at the top of the Addicks Dam. Addicks is a "rolled-earth" dam; it was constructed by using the adjacent soil. The primary purpose of the route is maintenance access for the Corps of Engineers.
The eastern end at Highway 6 can be accessed by sidewalk from the Park Row area. There is a pedestrian gate that is usually open. The eastern 1.5 miles of the trail is gravel.
The western two miles of the trail is concrete. At Barker Cypress, there is a pedestrian gate on the eastern side. Please be careful at the crossing. Sight lines are very good in both directions, and even at rush hour, there are big gaps in the traffic due to the traffic lights at South Park View and Park Row. Please be patient; you won't have to wait more than a few minutes for a gap in the traffic to allow you to cross safely. Parking is not permitted at the Barker Cypress crossing.
The concrete western segment does not have pedestrian gates but the cables/gates can be easily stepped over. The western end has access to South Park View.
