Rifugio Larcher al Cevedale open from March to April for the ski touring season. Also opens in summer for trekking season.
Overview
Trail is in the Stelvio National Park, near Vedretta de la Mare, Cevedale, Zufall, Palon de la Mare and Viòz.
Description
Trail starts at Malga Mare Parking (3€/day/car). Malga Mare Parking has a limited number of parking spaces. In summer it is better to arrive early.
The path is well-marked and not particularly difficult. From parking to Rifugio Larcher the path is almost all uphill, the first part in the woods, then they become meadows and only the last part is on rock. Rifugio Larcher is a good stopping point to eat and rest. Various other routes start from here, for both climbing and running.
Past Larcher there is still a short uphill stretch, to the Marmots Lake (the first lake). After that, the path becomes flat until you reach the third lake "lago del Caresel". Here, there is a dam and a hydroelectric power station. After the dam the path descends to the parking, first on rock then in the woods.
The whole way it is possible to admire beautiful landscapes of the Pejo Valley, the Venezia Valley and the nearby mountains and glaciers.
Flora & Fauna
It is possible to see marmots, ibexes, and other animals.
