It takes a 4 wheel drive vehicle to access the trailhead off of the Red Meadow Road which also a dirt road.
Description
Starting from the large parking area, follow the trail as it enters the trees. It soon starts to climb through hemlocks, pines and firs. The trail starts switchbacks as it heads up to the ridge line with views of Whitefish Mountain to the southwest.
Once to the ridge, there are intermittent views of the Link Lake and the peaks of Glacier National Park. The trail drops down to the lake. There are a couple of primitive campsites at the lake. Since this is in Flathead National Forest, camping is free. The lake is clear and cold.
Flora & Fauna
There is Westslope and Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout in the lake. This is bear country with both black bears and grizzlies. Carry bear spray especially during huckleberry season.
