Need to Know

The parking for the canyon is a small pullout just off highway 126 big enough for one, maybe two, cars.

Runner Notes

The footing is generally smooth and easy going.

Description

Calveras Canyon is a nice little canyon flanked by rocky outcroppings and mature, green Ponderosa trees. The trail in the canyon is mostly "cattle singletrack" and/or old two-track passing through intermittent meadows. With the exception of cattle roaming the canyon, you're sure to have the canyon to yourself.
The gentle grade makes for a very easy outing. Combined with the neighboring Rio Cebolla Trail, this can make for a great 14 mile loop. Or run the canyon as an out-and-back for an eight mile jaunt.

Flora & Fauna

You'll definitely encounter domesticated cattle but are likely to see elk and maybe coyote.
