Arch Rock). No campfires are allowed near the lake.
Description
Wilber May is one of those perfect Sierra lakes, surrounded closely by grass and flower covered meadows, trees and granite rocks, and a background of high Sierra peaks.
The trail starts from the Minnow Creek #27E02 trail about 1.8 miles west of the
Goodale Pass Trail #28E20 and 0.8 miles east of Grassy Lake. It drops slightly and crosses the outlet creek from Wilber May and then climbs through meadows with an elevation gain of less than 70 feet. It reaches the north end of the lake after only 0.4 miles.
There is an excellent campsite at the end of the trail about 1/3 of the way around the west side of the lake. It is in the rocks, only a few feet above and about 200 feet from the lake. I am sure there are more sites farther along. I also saw a group of young adults camping on rocks 50 feet above the east side of the lake. That would be a beautiful spot, but a little difficult to reach.
The lake has good fishing.
