Overview
This route contains many of the best parts of Mount Tom State Reservation. It is mostly on the New England Trail and is relatively short and easy with incredible pay-offs. At the northern end of the route, it moves off of the New England Trail and detours to a lookout tower with 360-degree views. This route has a lot of bang for your buck!
Description
The part of the New England Trail that this route occupies starts fairly flat and easy for about the first fifth of a mile. The trail then turns and gets steeper. In addition to being steeper, the trail also gets rocker.
Eventually, the trail reaches a few benches and a breathtaking view to the right. The route then leaves the New England Trail and heads between the benches, passes a kiosk, and leads to the Goat Peak lookout tower.
While somewhat short, this tower given incredible 360-degree views of the rest of Mount Tom State Reservation and all of Holyoke Range State Park across the Connecticut River.
