Need to Know
There are several bike trails where bikers or hikers have taken short cuts. In order to prevent further impact on the area, please stay on the main trail.
Runner Notes
The trail is wide and packed dirt, so it should make for a good uphill run, although it is short.
Description
The easiest way to access the
Vista Trail is to park along Ramohs Way, preferably in one of the pullouts, and pass through the entry way into the preserve. The trail at this point is a doubletrack dirt trail that climbs gently up the hill. The trail is relatively shaded, even though the trees don't grow in over the trail. The trail makes its way up the hillside before turning to the right and cutting back on itself.
The trail at this point gets a little steeper and there will be several unofficial mountain bike trails that people have made that break off in various directions. Continue following the wide trail until you reach the top, where the trail levels out. From here, you can enjoy views of the mountains behind you and the Silicon Valley, especially Los Gatos, spreading out before you through the trees.
There are several unofficial trails around the summit that lead to better views. Once you have enjoyed the views, you can work your way back to the entrance, where you can take the
Vista Trail to explore more of the preserve or go back to your car.
Flora & Fauna
Various species of birds can be seen in the trees along the trail. Squirrels are also common sites in the preserve.
