The trail is marked by white dots painted on rocks along the trail. Cell phone coverage is poor at best. Start this app while you are within coverage to download the local terrain maps. The southern portion is on Department of Energy land, while the northern portion is on Los Alamos County open space.

This trails proceeds upriver from the Ancho Springs trail. There is a cairn at the trail junction to help you find it. The trail crosses diverse terrain, from large basalt rocks to river-washed gravel. Views of the Rio Grande are frequent but access points are limited. The trail provides access to the Red Dot Trail to climb to the canyon rim. There is a small pool you can dip your feet or climb in! The trail also continues upriver toward the Blue Dot Trail.

Juniper and Pinion trees in the dry areas, and then Aspen and Cottonwoods along the river and drainages. Feral cattle are in the area, and some areas look like bear habitat.
