Description

The trailhead is at the low point of Piedra Loop and is identified by a modest sign and some old wooden stairs. Park along Piedra Loop. Run east toward the canyon until it gets steep. This trail is a steep stair-step affair through basalt. Look for the petroglyphs left by the ancestral Pueblo people that built this trail.

The trail levels out for a while when about half way down, and then gets steep again. Shortly after entering the thick undergrowth you'll reach a spring. Cross the spring and follow the trail to the right. The trail ends at Pajarito Springs, where a small pond has been built to soak your feet, or climb in!

Flora & Fauna

Rattlesnakes, feral cattle, fox, coyote, and possibly bears.
Pinion, Juniper, Cottonwood, Aspen, Cactus.
