Overview
Starting with fine views of Uptown Sedona and Oak Creek, the route has three river crossings and a 2 mile steady climb up a low traffic canyon to Schnebly Vista. From there, its back down Schnebly Hill, past the Merry-go-round with a choice of
Hangover Trail or
Munds Wagon Trail to complete a 12 or 14 mile loop.
Need to Know
Bring wading shoes, because you'll be putting your feet in the water on the third crossing.
Description
From the parking lot, follow
Huckaby trail above Oak Creek for three miles. The trail descends to the creek below Midgley Bridge where the first of three river crossings are encountered. It's possible to rock-hop the first crossing if the river is not too high. The second crossing, soon after can also be made without getting wet.
Next climb up from the creek and make a right onto Allens Bend trail. The trail goes down the access road at Grasshopper point and then makes a hard left, continuing along Oak Creek. At the intersection with
Casner Canyon Trail, make a right and cross the river for the third time before beginning a 2 mile ascent through Casner Canyon.
When arriving at the top, the trail turns to the right and a series of wire cairns can be followed to the Vista point. Follow the forest road downhill until crossing
Munds Wagon Trail.
Follow the trail to the right, away form the forest road. At the intersection of
Cow Pies Trail, this route ends and you have a choice of continuing to the parking lot via down
Munds Wagon Trail.
