Overview
This is the classic summit hike/run in Grand Targhee, quickly ascending to the summit of Fred's Mountain in about 2.8 miles. The trail is normally used for the Wrun for Wray, a popular fundraiser race in June. If hiking this route, you'll enjoy a moderately challenging uphill with spectacular views of the Teton at the summit. If running this route, you better have big lungs.
Need to Know
Dogs are allowed off-leash in Grand Targhee Resort on the trails, but must be under voice control. Dogs MUST BE LEASHED in the parking area and resort plaza.
Runner Notes
A popular training climb for locals, and part of the Wrun for Wray fundraiser race held in June.
Description
The trail begins at the bottom of the Dreamcatcher lift. The first part snakes through the woods then cuts across the mountain on a traverse. The traverse ends on a ridgeline with stunning views. Continuing up the ridge, the trail makes tight switchbacks. It ends at an observation point near the top of Dreamcatcher lift, offering clear views of the Tetons on the other side of the range. There are plenty of options to get down: Either return by the same trail, continue past the lift and down
Fred's Mountain Trail, or take the lift down.
