Description
The Clapper Rail Loop is essentially a 0.5 mile detour from one section of
Clapper Rail Trail to another. It can be done in either direction, but you'll have to take
Clapper Rail Trail to get to whichever starting point you choose. Parts of this trail are underwater at high tide, so you may be forced to turn around at some point.
To run the trail as it is laid out on this map, start on
Clapper Rail Trail at the main parking area on Park Road 66. Take a right at the observation tower and continue on until you get to a statue of an ibis. The trail forks here, so stay to the left to begin the Clapper Rail Loop. From this point on it will just be you and the wetlands as the trail makes a wide circle all the way back to observation tower you passed near the beginning of the run. You can choose to take a right at the tower to return to the parking area, or continue onto one of the other trails that initiates at this point.
Flora & Fauna
Herons, egrets, roseate spoonbills, and other coastal birds hang out here. Small crabs are common on the paths too.
