Overview
Nice not too difficult trail you could probably day run if you feel ambitious.
Need to Know
It's quite a run from Stars Rest campsite to the water and the bathroom, not so much distance-wise but elevation. If you burn out or want to make it a loop take
Camp Ohlone Road. It's much easier than
McCorkel Trail with significantly less elevation change. Taking
Camp Ohlone Road you'll also get great views of the river and "Little Yosemite".
Runner Notes
Loose gravel and dirt throughout.
Description
Some hilly sections that your legs will feel but nothing too hard. Really great views and depending on the season you might pass a few streams. We went in March after some rain and the hills were nice and green.
There's not a ton of tree cover on McCorkel so it will get very hot in the summer. Take
Camp Ohlone Road to
McCorkel Trail. rxH
McCorkel Trail until you hit
Cerro Este Road and take a left. You'll eventually hit
McCorkel Trail again on your right.
Navigating really isn't difficult. You'll have some excellent views throughout the run especially of Calaveras Reservoir. Dogs aren't allowed overnight.
Flora & Fauna
You'll probably get very close to some cows. We also spotted what we think was a bobcat. There are lots of birds especially at Stars Rest which is right next to a bunch of trees and brush.
