Overview
The loop run starts on a plateau before descending into the canyon and proceeding along Whychus Creek in a northeasterly direction. The return climbs along the canyon walls offering excellent views of Whychus Canyon and the Cascade Mountains to the west.
Description
The trailhead is located at the end of Goodrich Road, which intersects Hwy 126 about 4 1/4 miles east of Sisters, OR. Follow Goodrich Road north until its end, about 2 1/4 miles from the intersection with Hwy 126. The trail starts out on the plateau heading in a southwesterly direction for about 1/2 mile when it turns and enters the canyon.
The trail is steep and can be a problem when muddy or icy, but is well traveled. The trail reaches the canyon bottom and follows Whychus Creek in a northeasterly direction about 2 1/2 miles. Three options exist for the return trip. One trail climbs along the canyon wall gradually making its way to the plateau above. This trail offers excellent view of Whychus canyon and the Cascade Mountains to the west.
The other two trails start out following an old dirt road and, at a junction, you can either continue on this road back to the trailhead or head southeast to follow an old wagon road to the trailhead.
