Description
A route from
Black Canyon to the plateau that makes up much of Sutton Mountain. Once on the plateau you get nice views of the surrounding area including Sutton Mountain's summit (southeast of the route end).
Follow the
Black Canyon trail approximately 2.5 miles from the trailhead. A canyon will open up to the south which you can follow all the way up to the Sutton Mountain plateau. The walls of the canyon are grassy and steep in places, but not high enough to be dangerous (take extra care if the ground is muddy).
The canyon bottom is not fit for walking/running due to lots of brush and boulders. Game/human trails can be followed all the way up to the top along the sides of the canyon. Once on top, deer are commonly viewed and their commonly spotted remains would signify a healthy cougar population.
Flora & Fauna
Deer are common and there is a sizable elk population in the area.
