Overview
The Big Woods 50K is a group run organized by the Big Woods Running Club, which will take you through various parts of the Hopwell Big Woods trail system. Starting in Coventry Woods, you'll end up passing through Woody's Woods, Warwick County Park, State Game Lands #43, Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, and French Creek State Park.
A large part of the trail follows the
Horse-Shoe Trail, designated by yellow blazes.
Description
The Big Woods 50K trail goes through various parks, and does not have a uniform marking system. There are numerous side trails along the way, and therefore it is beneficial if you have a digital map to follow along with or the
Trail Run Project mobile app.
At times, the trail follows some roads for short sections, and along private property (as the
Horse-Shoe Trail often does). The trail has numerous steep sections, so need to be cautious and have proper footwear. As soon as you pick up the
Horse-Shoe Trail, off of Coventryville Rd, there will be a creek crossing. If it recently rained heavily, or if you want to keep your shoes dry, it may be prudent to skip this section by following Rt 23 to Mt Pleasant Rd, where you can pick the trail back up.
