Runner Notes

This area is prone to flooding and after large storms, like hurricanes, it may be closed-off by Concord Parks and Rec. There is at least one chronically wet area but the trail drains well for the most part.

Description

The trail takes off from the parking lot to the river along a plain next to Rocky River Road. During the summer and fall you can find wildflowers along this section. The trail continues into the woodlands and on the banks above the river. The steepest and rockiest climb is about 1/2 mile into the trail where you'll ascent quickly and turn over a large bend in the river. You'll descend pretty quickly.

The trail continues to a clearing that is wide enough for doubletrack. You'll pass a sign and the neighborhood entrance to the trail. As you continue you'll wind in and out of the forest. You'll pass a fence the demarcates the end of the city's trail but continue onward. There will be smaller branching trails along the river. There are also more trails into the pine forest.

The trail will become a bit more sandy as you reach the confluence of the Rocky River and Reedy Creek. You'll find large trees and perhaps a picnic table. In this section I've seen many wildflowers including cardinal flowers in the late fall.

There are other un-marked trails in this area between the neighborhood and confluence.
