There are no services along the trail, so if you need water or to use the restroom, do so before beginning your hike.

Description

The Otter Cove Trail provides access to Otter Cove and Blackwoods Campground from the Gorham Mountain Trail and parking area. To access the trail, park at the Gorham Mountain Trail parking area along the loop road and run out the Gorham Mountain Trail for a short distance until you arrive at a junction. To the right, the Gorham Mountain Trail starts climbing up Gorham Mountain while the Otter Cove Trail continues straight ahead. The trail makes its way through the woods over a small rise before it starts its descent to the Park Loop Road. The trees begin to thin as you cross the road and make your way down to the beach. The trail follows the the road for a short distance as it approaches the bridge. On the right hand side of the trail, you can cross the road and enjoy the shoreline, especially at low tide. It is a great place to explore tide pools when the tide is low and it is fun to watch the tide come in and out under the bridge. From here, you can either continue your run toward Blackwoods Campground via the Quarry Trail, which begins just after the bridge, or you can retrace your steps back to your vehicle.

Otter Cove at low tide provides a great playground to explore tide pools and the shoreline when the tide is out (as shown here). It is a popular place on the loop road for people to explore the coastline.
