Description
The Walkers Creek Section of the Uwharrie Trail was recently opened to the public in 2021. It connects to the 26 continuous miles of the Uwharrie Trail that begin at the
Wood Run Trailhead at NC24. For a thru-hike of the trail, instead of beginning the road walk from the Luther Trailhead to the Birkhead Mountain Wilderness, the road walk has been shortened and now begins at the Walkers Creek Trailhead.
This section is a short and easy/intermediate hike. Starting at the Walkers Creek Trailhead and heading south, there is a stream crossing at about 1.25 miles. From there, you'll have a moderate climb the rest of the way up to where the Walkers Creek section meets the previous section.
Note that there are no designated campsites along this section.
