Overview
Singletrack trail that provides views of Gaviota Peak mountain range, overlooks Gaviota Wind Caves, and the ocean.
Need to Know
Trail closes at sunset.
Description
The trailhead is at the end of San Julian Rd. Trail starts beyond the gate. When you reach the Las Cruces sign, follow the trail to the left of it. There will be a trail maker for the underpass to the left but continue straight. You'll connect to a fire road and there will be a trail marker for Ortega…remember this marker for the return trip! Once on the fire road, follow the trail and enjoy the views.
Pass the trail marker that says Woodland and continue on the fire road. You'll come to a fork in the road with a trail sign that reads Overlook (going straight) and
Hollister Trail (going right), continue straight to the Overlook. In about 100 yards there is another trail marker that reads Backcountry to Beach. This trail will lead you the back way to the Gaviota Wind Caves. However, continue straight on the fire road. When you reach the radio towers, you have made it to some of the most amazing views. You can carefully find a small trail to the left of the tower that overlooks the Gaviota Tunnel as well. Return using the same trail but remember the Ortega trail marker!
