Description
This trail begins and ends at two points on the
Profile Trail. There is a section of the
Profile Trail that drops down to the Watauga Creek and passes quite close to highway 105. Although the creek is very pretty, the highway noise can be unpleasant. This short section bypasses that lower section. It's cut further up onto the hill and stays back from the road. It's much quieter, and also doesn't change elevation quite as much.
Although many runners travel the
Profile Trail as a way to reach Calloway Gap, the trail is very worthwhile in its own right. There are many verdant sections with clear views of coves through mature hardwoods that are photo-worthy. This section can be used along with the first mile or so of the
Profile Trail to create a sort of "lollipop" loop of modest length.
Flora & Fauna
There are abundant wildflowers along the trail in summer.
