There is a visitor center with 24 hour restroom at the beginning of the trail, and a vault restroom a little further in.

The official MN State Park Hiking Club trail for this park. The trail starts with a short loop through restored prairie before turning back to travel through a wooded area with picnic tables, and vault restroom before coming to a very nice scenic overlook on to the St. Croix River. From here you go down a stairway to a path that runs along the river crossing a bridge over a creek. Just before getting to the beach area the trail turns inland along the creek through the woods traveling West, then turning back South along the Afton Alps ski area where it goes back uphill at a decent but not sever incline. This part of the trail allows horses as well. Then it swings back to the parking lot on a connector trail.
