Parking is only allowed at Gross Reservoir's "
North Shore Access." Parking at old trailhead and along access road (Indian Peaks Traverse - IPT - or Boulder County Road 68J) is not allowed.
Runner Notes
Eroded sections, small loose rocks and narrow trail make this not an ideal choice for running.
Description
Start the trail through an open section of log fencing along County Road 68J. The beginning is not marked but it is near powerlines and directly after the road makes a sharp turn from south to west. The narrow trail is somewhat faint here and eroded. Meander up through meadows with scattered pine trees and wildflowers.
The partially shaded trail goes mainly at a steady grade until it approaches some of the smaller rock formations. Steeper sections of trail ascend through a tighter valley with several annoying washed out sections and at least one downed tree across the path. Fleeting views of Gross Reservoir and the surrounding hills are available along this trail.
There are a few small saddles and false "summits" before reaching a small clearing. Here in the clearing, there are paths leading in different directions. Head west to reach
Twin Sisters Peak. Taking the path north will take you to
Twin Sisters Road and eventually to Magnolia Road.
About 1/2 way along the trail, one of the first prominent rock formations to the west is called Sisters Rock, where there is at least one rock climb:
