Need to Know
Chaba Warden Shelter is used for Parks Canada maintenance and other work. It is one of several backcountry warden cabins that have been around for a century or so--a working precious piece of history. The cabin and outbuildings are for maintenance work, and not open to the public.
Description
The Chaba Warden Shelter Spur is found at the 7.8 mile mark along
Chaba Trail. There is an obvious trail sign here, but this spur trail is not marked on it. Go right/north here, onto the unmarked trail that leads through the forest. This is a flat, well maintained trail.
After a little over a quarter mile, Chaba Warden Shelter Spur bends right/northeast, exits the forest into a clearing, where one sees the warden shelter across the clearing, a beautiful turquoise pond (Long Lake) to the right/east, and majestic peaks, including Dragon Peak, rising above the forest. The wardens sure picked a beautiful setting with great views, for their shelter.
Flora & Fauna
