Need to Know
You'll need Washington State Discovery Pass to park in trailhead lot ($10/day or $30/annual). On days with beautiful weather, particularly weekends, parking can be extraordinarily limited. Plan accordingly, and have a backup plan in mind.
Description
From the main
River Trail, go up the hill and take one of two courses to the bubbling geyser. There is a labelled arrow after crossing the bridge that denotes the route to the Bubbling Geyser. The trail is steep, but has man-made steps along the way and interesting scenery. Use caution when the trail is muddy or wet, as it can get slick! As always, please be sure to respect the wildlife and other park users.
The trail ends at a viewing platform with a brief description of how the Bubbling Geyser came to be. Similar to the Flaming Geyser for which the park is named, the Bubbling Geyser was created when coal miners probed a methane gas pocket. At this viewpoint, methane bubbles up through a mud layer and creates a puddle with an eerie grey-white film of calcium carbonate.
