Runner Notes
Definitely wear trail-running shoes.
Description
The Frank Gantz Trail is rated moderately difficult for hiking, so trail running is quite challenging due to the rocky terrain. If the ground is wet, the rocks can be extremely slippery and running would not be wise.
The trail connects with the Lakeside Trail around Tobyhanna, which is an easy five-mile loop, and therefore the two trails can be coupled together for an ~11-mile run departing and returning to Gouldsboro State Park. Requires a reasonably slow pace in parts given the uneven and rocky terrain, but it is great fun if you like the challenge.
The trail feels quite remote but is well-marked.
Flora & Fauna
The trail runs through beech and maple dominated second-growth forest, and runs along the southern margin of the black bear swamp natural area. Reasonable likelihood of wildlife sightings (including bear).
