Description
This section of the dark blue-blazed trail starts at the end of the
Yellow Trail and descends until crossing a small stream. The trail continues through the woods and eventually reaches a section with a lot of pine trees. Although the trail is blazed, there is one section with a turn that is easy to miss. In this pine tree section (at about 0.40 miles in) the actual trail takes a sharp left up a hill, while an un-blazed trail continues straight (there are blazes indicating a turn, but they are easy to miss).
If you missed the turn and continued running straight on the wide un-blazed trail, then you'll soon reach a four-way junction. Taking a left at that junction will eventually merge again with the Dark Blue Trail (at about 0.50 miles in), so it is not really an issue.
The trail then passes Taylor Reservoir. On the way to the
White Trail, there is a connector trail that leads to Fern St and then another connector trail that leads to the Southfield apartments off of Route 83. The best way to loop back to the
Yellow Trail is by taking the
White Trail; however, the western section of the Dark Blue Trail also loops back parallel to the
White Trail, but involves a water crossing.
