Overview

This section of the Montana 406 Trail travels through the Hyalite-Porcupine Horn Wilderness Study Area then follows the Gallatin Crest Trail to Hyalite Peak before it descends into Emigrant.

Description

This section climbs steeply quickly entering the Hyalite-Porcupine Horn WSA. Then intersecting Gallatin Crest Trail following it to Hyalite Peak (10058-ft) the high point of this section. Then turning east, it descends sharply into Emigrant. Wilderness hiking etiquette is required in WSAs. Bear spray and bear safety protocols are highly recommended.
