The Magdalena Ridge Observatory is visible on the skyline to the West with it's clear dome below South Baldy Peak. The next set of structures visible to the south are the Langmuir Laboratory for Atmospheric Research. The remains of the tower visible just below Timber Peak used to support a cable that spanned the valley to the research facility and was used to attract lightning. You may see other research infrastructure near the trail that are part of a lightning mapping array operated by the laboratory.

Timber Peak Trail #70 extends along the ridgeline below Timber Peak. It roughly follows the treeline, providing expansive views to both the east and west as you progress down the trail.

While the trail appears relatively flat compared to others in the area, its high elevation and rugged terrain still make this trail quite challenging. The tread is primitive and there is unavoidable scree, so please exercise due caution.

The trail can be progressively more difficult to follow and the mapped route ends at a viewpoint to the south. The USFS maps show the trail extending further, but no tracks are discernible from this point on.
