The Sevilleta Visitor Center closes the gate after hours, but you are welcome to walk in on foot at any time.

Need to Know

Check out the visitor center for information on the refuge, a nice picnic area, and facilities. Also consider visiting the nature loop by the visitor center first to help you identify local flora visible on the hike.

Description

The Mesa View Trail starts at the Sevilleta Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and extends on to the mesa overlooking the western high-plains and Ladron Peak to the west, and the Rio Grande Valley to the east. Interpretive signs on the mesa describe an active geological fault line, and the Long Wavelength Array (adio telescope) can also be seen at the UNM research site north of the visitor center.
