Need to Know
Some history.... Up until about 1920, prospecting was allowed on BLM lands. During this period, prospectors looked for minerals in Mineral Ridge, and this tunnel was made. However, no ore was ever found in it.
Description
This short spur trail is found about 3/4 of a mile from the parking area when running
Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail counter-clockwise. From
Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail, go west onto this spur trail.
This spur trail is relatively flat as it hugs the steep, thinly wooded hillside of Mineral Ridge, that drops off to the south/left. There are nice views to the south and west as one runs this trail. After about 1/10 mile, this spur trail ends at a rocky area with the tunnel opening on the right/north.
Definitely an interesting and worthwhile side trip!
Flora & Fauna
